Deciphering Transdniestria
HOME

Is PMR against Kosovo’s independence? No. And this is one of the issues where Transdniestria differs from Russia, which clearly seems to be against it, at least as long as Serbia doesn’t go along.

But the feeling in Transdniestria is one of wonder and amazement: Why is Kosovo all of a sudden so urgent? Why not handle some of the older conflicts first? I heard a college student say: “We just think that if Kosovo has waited 8 years for independence, we have waited more than twice as long: 17 years. So it is fair to look at us, too.”

Regarding the arguments over who has “more” right to independence, it really doesn’t matter as long as both become independent countries. But if you want to see a well-reasoned view from a leading Washington foreign policy expert about why he thinks that Transdniestria deserves it more than Kosovo does, check out this article:

His arguments are very convincing and the historical record is unassailable.
